Gerpok... Lite

Posted by

After discussing Gerpok, what our goals were, and where things stood, the developers realized that Gerpok, the music trends and play history site, had had its day in the sun, and was ready to come to a close.

However, as there are still few actually good sites for doing dynamic "now-playing" images, we figured we'd keep that part of the site up, even if we took down the majority of the code, database and general cruft which saps time and energy from anyone trying to develop or maintain the site.

Hopefully this with this reduced, focused site, we'll not only find it easier to run but maybe even easy enough to improve. For now, we're calling it GerpokLite, but any of the old folks who remember when Gerpok started out will recognize it as a return to our (AudioTracker) roots.

About Gerpok

Gerpok was once a site much like Audioscrobbler or Last.fm: it provided a history of what users listened to, who listened to what, and such. The people who wrote and maintained it were no longer able to dedicate the time and effort required to make it useful though

In light of the excellect alternatives, have re-focused their energies. Gerpok will continue as a dynamic "now playing" image generation app though, either backed by plugins if we can get them, or from other site's web services (i.e. last.fm).

It was a fun couple of years back when we were expanding, adding features, outgrowing hosting and such. We thank everyone who came along for the ride. For those interested, the majority of the source will be released under a permissive license and some form of a database dump will be posted at some point.
